Most people underestimate the size, scale and complexity that goes into running a School. Several hundred students, a few hundred staff, support teams, maintenance and electrical contractors, cleaners and security personnel. All trying to utilise, manage or protect sprawling grounds and facilities, let alone the important and expensive equipment contained inside of them. Excursions, camps, sports carnivals, theatre productions. Oh yeah, and educating our kids!
And it doesn’t stop during term holidays. That’s when a School is often the busiest! It becomes a construction site, and the temporary home of dozens of tradespeople who are painting and refurbishing or improving the air-conditioning systems or upgrading the electrical infrastructure. Administrative, facility and dedicated teaching staff pile in to catch up, prepare or implement the School’s broader strategic and educational objectives. It simply doesn’t end!
That’s a lot of people moving in lots of ways at lots of different times. And it becomes even more startling when you start to consider the immense Duty of Care our Schools are challenged with – growing the next generation of leaders, scientists, doctors and tradespeople, as well as protecting our children from Duress, by BodyGuard Technologies, is completely aware of the enormous burden our School’s and the people who run them have been charged with.
Duress is a personal safety and emergency response service. Built into a mobile-friendly App, Duress provides its users with a means of immediate protection and when needed emergency response.
When in fear of their safety Duress users can activate a simple monitoring function by either holding a finger on their mobile-screen, or inserting headphones. This tracks users at Duress' 24/7 Operations Centre, a highly specialised and accredited Security Service who oversee all BodyGuard licenses.
If the situation escalates Users simply let go of the phone or rip out their headsets and the Operations Centre is activated – live video, audio and location is transmitted from the User device to Duress' Operations team who diagnose the threat and if necessary can engage Police directly, bypassing Emergency and 000 protocols thanks to a special accreditation they hold.
If the situation does not warrant Police intervention the Operations Centre will contact the License holders nominated 3rd Party (Principal, Facility Manager, School Security Contractor) and during a medical emergency, they will immediately escalate the call to 000 Ambulance.
In a School the Duress team recognise a few distinct but valuable purposes:
Whether away from School, within a large regional campus or during less supervised excursions and other off-campus events. Duress for Schools can provide a 12-month license in their "Welcome Packs" to new Y7 students, or trigger “Single Month” licenses for the purposes of discrete School activities. Increasingly our partner Schools have begun introducing Duress to its parent and community network simply as a means of driving the importance – and now accessibility - of Personal Safety Measures. We often find these offerings fall into the various Healthy, Safety and Wellbeing Programs already operating in a School.
School Operators have a large remit and are often time and resource constrained. They also have to ‘do their job’ (mostly) after students have left for the day - this means critical functions (cleaning) take place late in the afternoon and into the night. Under this
