Before it is an emergency

Get a colleague, not a police car.

A team alert is an internal call for help. It notifies managers or the whole team, with the worker's live location attached, without opening an emergency case at the monitoring centre. It exists for situations that are escalating but are not yet an emergency, and it works on all four Duress devices.

Why it exists

The problem it solves

Most difficult moments are not emergencies. A customer becoming aggressive, a visit that feels wrong, a situation where a second person in the room would end it. Workers will not press an emergency button for those, so without another option they press nothing at all.

Giving people a proportionate response is what stops the emergency button being the only choice. It also produces a record of the near misses that would otherwise never be reported.

How it works

Step by step

  1. 1

    The worker raises it

A dedicated Team Alert button on Phoenix, or the equivalent action in the Duress App, on Falcon and on Eagle.

  2. 2

The team is notified with location

Managers or the whole team, depending on how the site is configured, receive the alert with the worker's live location attached so they can actually get there.

  3. 3

    A colleague responds

The nearest available person attends. In most cases presence alone resolves it, which is why local help first is the right default for this class of situation.

  4. 4

It escalates if it needs to

If the situation worsens, the worker raises a full emergency alert and the monitoring centre takes over with the usual 7-second pickup and 4-minute escalation cadence.

What each device does

Including the ones that do not have it. A device paired to a phone does not inherit the phone's capabilities.

Duress App

Supported

Internal alert to managers or the whole team, with live location, from the phone.

See Duress App →

Phoenix

Supported

A dedicated Team Alert button, physically separate from the Emergency button and a distinct colour so there is no fumbling.

See Phoenix →

Falcon

Supported

Request a colleague before escalating to emergency services, raised from the wrist.

See Falcon →

Eagle

Supported

Team alerts plus push-to-talk to an individual or the whole team, which suits security and remote crews working in pairs.

Questions

Common questions

Does a team alert reach the monitoring centre?
No. That is the distinction. A team alert is internal and goes to your own people. An emergency alert opens a monitored case with a trained operator. Both exist because they are answers to different situations.
Who receives a team alert?
Whoever the site is configured to notify in Pathfinder, which is usually managers, a duty roster, or the whole team depending on how the workplace runs. It is set per site rather than fixed.
Why not just send everything to the monitoring centre?
Because the response would be wrong for the situation, and because workers self-censor. If the only button is an emergency button, people will not press it for a customer who is becoming difficult, and you lose both the response and the record.
Is there a record of team alerts?
Yes. They are recorded in Pathfinder like any other activation, which makes them a useful source of near-miss data for a WHS team.
